Company History of Mankinen Workshop Ltd

Our company was founded 1952 by Esko Mankinen, who started with one secondhand turning machine in his backyard shed. Very soon he had to hire another man and buy another used turning machine. After the shed has been extended twice there were 6-7 workers with 4 turning machines and 2 milling machines.

On year 1961 a new workshop was built to neighbouring site. New machines were purchased and more people hired.

Riihimäki is main railway junction town in southern Finland with engine shed. In early 1960’s Mankinen started servicing Finnish railways and after few years they started to build our own machines according to Finnish Railways specifications. Since then these machines have been sold to other railway contractors in Finland, Scandinavia, Europe and even Australia.

Another company ”Teho-Diesel ltd” was established 1976 by Esko Mankinen for motor repairs and machinings. For the new company a new workshop was built to Tehtaankatu-street in Riihimäki. With the workshop is retail sales of motor spares, agricultural spares, hydraulics and tools.

Rest of the Mankinen's workshop was relocated to Tehtaankatu, where new extension was built 1987. Last extension was built in year 2000 for the retail sales.

On 1.4.2008 these two companies were combined to ”Konepaja Mankinen Oy”
